Fire crews were called to the scene at 2011 Friendsville Addison Road in Friendsville around 3:32 p.m. on Monday, March 11, after the homeowner spotted flames venting from his roof, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

By the time 60 firefighters from the Friendsville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department arrived, it was too late to contain the blaze to just the house. The fire jumped to nearby cars, then crossed the street, tearing through acres of land before crews could stop it from spreading further.

It took crews an hour to get the flames under control.

The homeowner, identified as Timothy Scott Sines Jr., was outside when the fire started and could only watch as his home burned. Officials say the fire started in the kitchen, though the exact cause remains under investigation.

By the time the smoke cleared, officials estimated the damage at $65,000 to the home and $25,000 in lost contents.

The Maryland Forestry Division assisted in battling the blaze, which scorched approximately five acres before being contained.

Somehow, no one was hurt, officials said.
